Music clubs: Anglo-Americana, the best of both worlds

A truly unique sounding band featuring brilliant self-composed songs and classic tracks.

“Steve earns the title of ‘Songsmith’. He has a feel for melody and mood, and a knack for matching or contrasting words with the music… a mixture of ideas and styles that any aspiring songwriter should hear…”

R2 Magazine

With his follow up album “Songsmith”, Steve was acclaimed as “a distinctive voice producing a body of songs which challenge, intrigue and beguile.”

Now working on new material under the working title of “Anglo-Americana”, he is on the road again delighting audiences all over the country.

It’s a swampy brew of styles mixed from both sides of the ocean, appealing to the vagabond lurking inside men, women and children of all ages.

Steve’s powerful singing and playing along with his compadres Chris ‘the Bishop’ Lydon on tuba, piano and cajon, and John Humphreys on violin, banjo, mandolin and melodeon, just seems to communicate with everyone whatever their declared musical taste.

High energy, compelling the live sound mixes with a rootsy Americana feel to songs from recent albums: Songsmith and The Moon’s High Tide, new songs like Riding the Road, London Midnight Talking and The State I’m In (The Mermaid Song), as well as classics from Steve Earle, Van Zandt etc, and an eclectic bunch of what Steve calls ‘bar room classics!’

What others are saying about us:

“…actually something of Ray Davies here too, via a jollied up, rhythmic and rocking Fairports… Has a wonderful lightness of touch.”

“If his wandering, itinerant existence produces music like this latest album, then keep on globetrotting, Steve!”

“Laconic, funny and intensely human.”

Robert Twigger, award winning author of Angry White Pyjamas
