The songwriting compulsion continues. We’ve been back in the wonderful Woodworm Studios working with engineer Stuart Jones again on two tracks: Diamond and The Gambling Man and Catch Me When I Fall. The first is the tale of two wandering spirits whose paths intersect and they ramble together for awhile. Eventually they take different trails but the Gambling Man, although sad, also knows he has been changed for the better and perhaps the separation is not forever ?
Catch Me When I Fall was written to be performed at t a private ‘festival party’ in the North East as a birthday tribute to an amazing lady, Trish Taylor, who got me back playing again. At the concert we were joined on stage by Kathryn Tickell on fiddle and it went down a storm – the whole audience joining in on the chorus and waving their arms in unison. On the recording our old friend Tom Leary (Feast of Fiddles, Lindisfarne etc) plays some lovely melancholic slide guitar.
Not sure when and how the songs will released yet. Certainly ‘Catch Me When I Fall’ – will be on a new compilation I am creating called Portfolio. This is not a commercial release but a sample of my songs that I think others might enjoy playing and recording.
Catch Me When I Fall (excerpt)
The sun begins to dance, through the dust upon the glass
I remembered how you turned to wave to me at last,
There was a certain look within your eyes
That caught me by surprise,
Straightened out my heart to let the weary angels sing
So catch me when I fall in love again.
